Olympic-region cold, zoned comfort, no fuel truck
Lake Placid is about 75 minutes from our shop by way of Route 9N and Route 73 through Keene, and our North Zone comfort consultant covers the village and the surrounding Olympic region regularly. The housing here is unlike anywhere else in Essex County: Main Street buildings above Mirror Lake, condos and townhouses built for the ski season, large lakefront homes on Lake Placid itself, and a deep short-term-rental market that needs heat in January and air conditioning in July to compete.
That mix is why zoned Mitsubishi systems fit so well here. A multi-zone system heats and cools each bedroom and living area on its own thermostat, so a rental owner pays to condition only the rooms in use, and a second-home owner can hold the house at 50°F from a phone while it is empty. Wall units handle most rooms; floor-mounted units suit great rooms with glass walls; a ducted air handler can serve a newer build with existing ductwork.
Winter is the reason to be careful about brand and sizing. Lake Placid regularly sees -20°F, and -30°F nights are not rare. A conventional heat pump quits long before that. Mitsubishi Hyper-Heating INVERTER equipment keeps full rated output at 5°F and keeps running to -22°F on the H2i Plus models we install, and we size for the coldest night the valley actually produces.

Why Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat works in Lake Placid
The High Peaks are the hardest heating test in New York State. Nights of -20°F are normal here and -30°F shows up most winters, with a heating season that runs from October into May. Mitsubishi Electric built the Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) line for exactly this: 100% of rated heating capacity at 5°F, continued operation to -13°F on standard H2i equipment, and down to -22°F on the newer H2i Plus and FS-series models we install in Lake Placid.
Below those limits the unit does not die; it keeps running at reduced output while the home coasts on stored heat. We size for the coldest realistic night, not the average one, and we tell you straight whether a wood stove or backup makes sense for your house. The inverter compressor modulates instead of cycling on and off, so the system sips power at 20°F and ramps up only when the thermometer dives.
One honest note for the High Peaks: on the handful of -30°F nights a winter, a drafty older home may want its wood stove or existing boiler kept as backup. A tight newer build usually does not. We tell you which you have after the load calculation, not after the install.

What we install in Lake Placid
Most Lake Placid homes have no ductwork and no natural gas, so the system we design starts from the rooms you actually live in. Here is what we install most often in Lake Placid:
- Multi-zone systems for ski condos and short-term rentals with per-room control and app access for the owner
- Whole-home conversions off oil and propane in year-round village homes
- Lakefront homes on Lake Placid and Mirror Lake with summer cooling and dehumidification
- Floor-mounted units for great rooms, glass walls and timber-frame spaces
- Ducted air handlers for newer builds with existing ductwork
- Repair and maintenance on existing heat pumps of any brand, plus RUUD furnace and boiler service
Single-zone ductless
One outdoor unit, one indoor unit. The right answer for an addition, a great room, a camp or the one room the furnace never reaches.
Ductless mini-splits →Multi-zone systems
One Hyper-Heat outdoor unit feeding up to 8 indoor units, each on its own thermostat.
Indoor unit styles →Whole-home conversions
Replace the oil or propane boiler as the primary heat source. Ductless zones, a ducted air handler, or both.
Whole-home heat pumps →Ducted air handlers
A Mitsubishi SVZ or PVA air handler drops in where an old furnace was and uses the ducts you already have.
Ducted systems →Repair & maintenance
Mitsubishi-certified service on any brand of heat pump, plus furnaces, boilers and central AC. Flat-rate maintenance pricing posted online.
Heat pump repair →RUUD furnaces, boilers & AC
When a heat pump is not the right fit, we install RUUD propane furnaces, high-efficiency boilers and central air, and hybrid heat-pump water heaters.
Traditional HVAC →Heat pump rebates for Lake Placid homeowners
Most of the Lake Placid area is NYSEG territory, which means NYS Clean Heat rebates administered through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump installs. Adirondack Heat Pumps is a participating contractor, so the rebate comes off your invoice instead of arriving as a check months later. Homes converting fully off oil or propane generally qualify for the higher tiers; single-zone and partial-home systems qualify for less.
Some addresses inside the village are served by the village's own electric department rather than NYSEG. The rebate path is different in that case, so tell us who sends your electric bill and we will sort out which program applies before we quote.
Programs and tiers change, so we do not print dollar figures here. We confirm your exact amount at the free estimate and file the paperwork for you. See rebates & savings and financing.

Heat pump questions from Lake Placid homeowners
Does a heat pump work at -30°F in Lake Placid?
Standard Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat equipment operates to -13°F; the H2i Plus and FS-series models we install in the High Peaks operate to -22°F. Below that the unit keeps running at reduced output while the house coasts. We size for the coldest realistic night and tell you honestly whether your house wants a backup for the few nights a winter that go colder.
I rent my Lake Placid house short-term. Can I control the heat remotely?
Yes. Every system we install can connect to the Mitsubishi Comfort app or kumo cloud, so you can set each zone, lock out guest changes and get an alert if a room drops below setpoint. Most rental owners find per-room zoning cuts the heating cost per occupied night noticeably.
How far is Lake Placid from your shop, and is there a travel charge?
About 75 minutes from Ticonderoga. Estimates are free anywhere in our territory, including Lake Placid, and there is no travel charge on installs. We group service calls in the Olympic region so a repair visit is usually quick to schedule.
Which rebate program covers Lake Placid?
Most Lake Placid-area addresses are NYSEG, so NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG apply and we file them. Some village addresses are on the village electric department instead; we confirm which program applies before we quote.
Can I keep my oil boiler as backup?
Yes. Many Lake Placid homeowners keep the boiler for the coldest nights and let the heat pump do the daily work. Keeping it can change which rebate tier you qualify for, so we explain the trade-off before you decide.
