No heat below freezing
Pipes in a North Country house can freeze within hours. This is our highest-priority call, every time.
Gas or propane smell
Leave the building first. Call your propane supplier and 911. Call us once the property is confirmed safe.
Carbon monoxide alarm
Everyone outside immediately, call 911, don't go back in. We inspect and repair the combustion fault afterward.
Burning smell, smoke, sparking
Shut the system off at the breaker and call. Don't try to restart it.
Frozen or at-risk pipes
Loss of heat in a cold snap can burst pipes fast. Time matters more than cost here.
No cooling in extreme heat
Dangerous for infants, elderly residents and anyone with a heat-sensitive health condition.
Water leaking from the system
Condensate overflow or a boiler leak damages floors and framing quickly.
Grinding, banging, repeated breaker trips
Mechanical or electrical failure in progress. Shut it down and call.
Heat pump stuck in defrost or iced solid
Steam and a short pause is normal defrost. A block of ice that never clears is a service call.
Five checks that solve a surprising number of 2 a.m. calls
- Thermostat. Set to heat, set above room temperature, batteries good. On a Mitsubishi remote, make sure it isn't in Fan or Dry mode.
- Breaker. A tripped HVAC breaker is common. Reset it once. If it trips again, stop and call.
- Furnace switch. The service switch on or near the furnace looks like a light switch and gets bumped off more than you'd think.
- Filter. A clogged filter can shut a furnace down on its limit switch.
- Fuel. Propane tank gauge or oil tank level. Running dry is one of the most common no-heat calls we get, and an empty oil tank needs a bleed and restart after delivery.
Heat pump owners: check that the outdoor unit isn't buried in snow or blocked by a drift, and that nothing is piled against it. The Mitsubishi troubleshooter walks you through the blink codes.
If none of that restores heat, shut the system down and call. In a hard freeze, open cabinet doors under sinks and let faucets drip while you wait.

An emergency is a bad time to make a long-term decision, which is exactly why we don't use it as leverage. We'll get the house warm first. If the system is old enough that this breakdown won't be the last, ask us afterward about a Mitsubishi Hyper-Heating INVERTER system: it heats to -13°F (-22°F on H2i Plus), cools in summer, has no burner and no CO risk, and qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates and 18 months 0% financing, so a failed system doesn't have to become a financial crisis.
We'll price a traditional RUUD replacement and a heat pump side by side with real operating numbers. Whichever fits, we install it and stand behind it. Mitsubishi systems on the Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan also get 24-hour priority service, which means the next emergency goes to the front of the line.

Emergency service questions
Do you really answer at night and on weekends?
Yes. (518) 812-1958 is answered 24/7. A live person picks up Monday through Friday 8 to 5. After hours our assistant takes your details and the on-call office calls you back. We don't auto-book; a person decides who goes out and when.
How fast can you get here?
No-heat calls below freezing and safety issues go first. Response depends on where you are between Whitehall and Plattsburgh and what the roads are doing; we give you a realistic window on the phone rather than a promise we can't keep.
Does emergency service cost more?
There is a trip and diagnostic charge, quoted when you book, and the repair itself is priced before any work begins so there are no surprises on the invoice. Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan customers get priority service.
I smell propane. What do I do?
Leave the house, don't flip switches on the way out, call your propane supplier and 911 from outside. Call us once it's confirmed safe to re-enter.
My heat pump is steaming and stopped for a few minutes. Is that an emergency?
No. That's a defrost cycle: the outdoor coil frosts in cold damp weather and the unit reverses briefly to melt it. Ice that never clears or a solid block under the unit is a service call.
Do you service equipment you didn't install?
Yes. Furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, AC and water heaters of all major brands, including Champlain Valley Heating & Plumbing installs.
What if the emergency turns into a replacement?
We get you temporary heat guidance and a safe house first, then price a RUUD replacement and a Mitsubishi heat pump side by side. Financing is 18 months at 0% on qualifying installs.
Rebates Available

★★★★★“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
