Iron-ore history, Lake Champlain views, and a lot of oil tanks
Port Henry sits on a hillside above Lake Champlain with Moriah, Mineville and Witherbee behind it, and the whole town still shows its iron-mining past. The housing is a mix of 1800s and early-1900s village homes stacked up the streets above the lake, company-built houses in Mineville and Witherbee, hill farms out toward Moriah Center, and lakefront homes and camps along the shore between the Port Henry beach and the Crown Point line. Our operations manager Rollin Slattery grew up in Mineville; this is home turf for us.
Natural gas never reached here. Homes heat with fuel oil above all, plus propane, wood and electric baseboard in the smaller houses. The winter design temperature is about -10°F, with the lake wind on the exposed streets above the water. Many of the village homes have old oil boilers with radiators or baseboard and no ductwork, which makes a ductless Mitsubishi system the straightforward answer: wall units in the main rooms, a floor-mounted unit where a radiator used to be, no ducts to build.
At 25 minutes from the shop, Port Henry and Moriah get fast scheduling. A comfort consultant can be out the same week and a repair call does not wait for a route north.

Why Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat works in Port Henry & Moriah
The Champlain Valley is milder than the High Peaks but still serious cold. The design temperature around Port Henry & Moriah is roughly -10°F, with a few nights most winters that go lower and a damp lake wind that makes old houses feel colder than the number. Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) equipment delivers 100% of its rated heating capacity at 5°F, keeps operating to -13°F, and the newer H2i Plus and FS-series models run to -22°F. That is a comfortable margin for a Port Henry & Moriah winter.
The inverter compressor modulates its speed to match the load instead of cycling on and off, which is where most of the efficiency comes from. On a 25°F day the system runs low and quiet; on the coldest night of the year it ramps to full output. We size every system from a room-by-room load calculation, not the square footage on a tax card.

What we install in Port Henry & Moriah
No two houses around Port Henry & Moriah are alike, so we do not sell a package. These are the system types we install most often here:
- Whole-home oil conversions in village homes with radiators and no ductwork
- Floor-mounted units that take the place of a radiator or baseboard in older rooms
- Lakefront homes and camps on the Champlain shore with cooling and freeze alerts
- Single-zone systems for company-built houses in Mineville and Witherbee
- Hill farmhouses with a mix of ductless zones and a ducted air handler
- Repair and maintenance on any brand, plus RUUD furnace, boiler and water heater service
Single-zone ductless
One outdoor unit, one indoor unit. The right answer for an addition, a great room, a camp or the one room the furnace never reaches.
Ductless mini-splits →Multi-zone systems
One Hyper-Heat outdoor unit feeding up to 8 indoor units, each on its own thermostat.
Indoor unit styles →Whole-home conversions
Replace the oil or propane boiler as the primary heat source. Ductless zones, a ducted air handler, or both.
Whole-home heat pumps →Ducted air handlers
A Mitsubishi SVZ or PVA air handler drops in where an old furnace was and uses the ducts you already have.
Ducted systems →Repair & maintenance
Mitsubishi-certified service on any brand of heat pump, plus furnaces, boilers and central AC. Flat-rate maintenance pricing posted online.
Heat pump repair →RUUD furnaces, boilers & AC
When a heat pump is not the right fit, we install RUUD propane furnaces, high-efficiency boilers and central air, and hybrid heat-pump water heaters.
Traditional HVAC →Heat pump rebates for Port Henry & Moriah homeowners
Port Henry and Moriah is NYSEG territory, which means NYS Clean Heat rebates administered through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump installs. Adirondack Heat Pumps is a participating contractor, so the rebate comes off your invoice instead of arriving as a check months later. Homes converting fully off oil or propane generally qualify for the higher tiers; single-zone and partial-home systems qualify for less.
An oil-heated village home converting fully to Mitsubishi is usually a higher-tier job. Partial systems that keep the boiler still qualify, just for less.
Programs and tiers change, so we do not print dollar figures here. We confirm your exact amount at the free estimate and file the paperwork for you. See rebates & savings and financing.

Heat pump questions from Port Henry & Moriah homeowners
My Port Henry house has radiators and no ducts. Can you still install a heat pump?
Yes. That is the most common house we see in Port Henry. Ductless wall and floor-mounted units go room by room with no ductwork, and the boiler can stay as backup or come out. A floor-mounted unit fits where a radiator used to sit.
Which rebate applies in Moriah?
NYSEG serves Port Henry, Moriah, Mineville and Witherbee, so NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG apply and we file them as a participating contractor. We confirm your tier at the free estimate.
How far are you from Port Henry?
About 25 minutes from the Ticonderoga shop. Estimates, installs and service calls here are easy to schedule and there is no travel charge.
Does the lake wind change what you install?
It changes where we put the outdoor unit. On exposed streets above the water we mount on brackets or a stand on the sheltered side of the house and keep it above drifting snow. The equipment itself handles the cold; placement handles the wind.
Can you replace my old oil boiler with something other than a heat pump?
Yes. If a heat pump is not the right fit we install RUUD high-efficiency boilers and propane furnaces, and we service oil equipment that is still in good shape.
