How Much Does a Mitsubishi Heat Pump Cost in the North Country?
Single-zone Mitsubishi systems start in the low five figures installed before rebates; whole-home systems are a larger investment offset by the top NYS Clean Heat rebate tier and 18-month 0% financing. The exact number depends on how many zones, which indoor unit styles, how far the line sets run, what the electrical panel needs, and whether you decommission the old oil or propane system. We don't quote over the phone because we'd be guessing — but we can tell you exactly what moves the price, what you get for it, and how to run your own savings numbers before we visit.

Six things that set the price of a heat pump install
- Number of zones. Every indoor unit adds equipment, a line set, a wall penetration and labor. A one-room system is the floor; a seven-zone whole-home conversion is several times that.
- Indoor unit style. Wall units are the least expensive per zone. Floor units, ceiling cassettes and ducted air handlers cost more and take more labor to set.
- Outdoor unit and cold rating. Hyper-Heat (H2i) outdoor units cost more than standard ones and are the right spec for any zone that carries winter heat here. Multi-zone units cost more than single-zone but less than several singles.
- Line-set length and routing. A unit on the wall behind the outdoor unit is a short run. A second-floor bedroom on the far side of an 1870 farmhouse means a longer run, line hide covers and more time.
- Electrical. One dedicated 240V circuit per outdoor unit is standard. An older 100-amp panel that needs upgrading adds real cost, which we identify at the estimate.
- Mounting and site work. Wall bracket or raised stand over a gravel pad, drain pan heater and surge protector are in every quote. Difficult access, long trenching to a detached building or a second outdoor unit add to it.

What the three common system types cost, relatively
Single-zone
One H2i outdoor unit, one wall unit, one circuit. Starts in the low five figures installed, before rebates. The one-room addition, the camp, the first step off propane. Often one install day.
Ductless systems →Multi-zone
One outdoor unit, two to five indoor units. Roughly two to three times a single zone, depending on styles and routing. Carries a floor or most of a house; partial-conversion rebate tiers apply.
Multi-zone units →Whole-home conversion
One or two outdoor units, four to eight indoor units, often an air handler, decommissioning. The largest investment — and the largest rebate, the largest fuel savings and 0% financing.
Whole-home →We publish ranges in words rather than exact prices because a Lake Placid farmhouse and a Ticonderoga ranch with the same square footage can be thousands apart. Your written estimate is itemized and the price on it is the price.
How the rebate tier moves your number
NYS Clean Heat, paid through NYSEG and National Grid, rewards how much of your heating load the heat pump takes over. A single zone added to a house that keeps its boiler sits in a lower tier. A whole-home system that carries the full load with the oil or propane equipment removed sits in the highest tier, and the difference can be a large share of the project. Addison County, Vermont homes earn Efficiency Vermont incentives plus utility bonuses on the same logic. Rebate amounts change by program year and by utility, so we confirm your exact figure at the estimate and file the paperwork — your price is shown with the rebate already subtracted. See rebates and savings.

Paying for it against the fuel bill it replaces
Qualified buyers can finance through Synchrony at 0% interest for 18 months. Here's how homeowners use it: take the installed price after rebates, divide by 18, and compare that monthly figure to what you spend on oil or propane deliveries across the year plus the electricity your old system already used for its blower or circulator. For most oil and propane homes the heat pump's monthly payment plus its added electricity lands close to — and often under — what the fuel was costing, and when the 18 months end the payment stops and the savings don't. We'll run that comparison with your real numbers at the estimate. See financing.
Example in round words: a system financed over 18 months with a monthly payment near what a winter's worth of propane deliveries costs spread across the year — then zero payment and roughly a third of the heating cost from year two on.

The free calculator, and $250 off for using it
Before we come out, run our Cost Savings Calculator See It On Your Wall. In about two minutes it takes your ZIP, home size and age, what you heat with and roughly what you pay, and shows your annual cost today against three Mitsubishi options — single-zone, a 50% hybrid and whole-home Hyper-Heat — plus your five-year cost of doing nothing. The report is emailed to you with a code worth $250 off your installation when you complete it before your estimate. It's an estimate, not a quote; the firm price comes from the in-home load calculation.

Why the cheapest heat pump quote usually costs the most
You will get lower numbers than ours. Here is where they usually come from: a system sized off square footage instead of a load calculation; a standard outdoor unit instead of Hyper-Heat; the outdoor unit set on the ground with no stand, no drain pan heater and no surge protector; line sets left bare on the siding; refrigerant added by gauge pressure instead of weighed for the line length; no commissioning, no app setup, no rebate filing. Each of those saves the installer money and costs you capacity on the coldest night, efficiency every day, and the warranty when something fails. Our price includes all of it, plus the 12-year parts and labor warranty and the 180-Day Comfort Guarantee. What's in our install standard lays it out line by line.
Heat pump cost questions
How much does a single-zone Mitsubishi mini-split cost installed?
Single-zone Hyper-Heat systems start in the low five figures installed, before rebates, with a stand, drain pan heater, surge protection, line hide and commissioning included. The exact number depends on the indoor unit, line-set length and electrical, which we confirm at a free in-home estimate.
How much does a whole-home conversion cost?
It's a larger investment than a single zone, set by zone count, unit styles, line-set runs, electrical and decommissioning, and offset by the top NYS Clean Heat tier, 0% financing for 18 months and the oil or propane bill that goes away. We price it in writing after a load calculation.
Why won't you give a price over the phone?
Because two homes with the same square footage can be thousands apart depending on insulation, layout, line-set routing and the panel. A phone number would be a guess that either disappoints you later or pads the price. The in-home estimate is free and the number on it is the number.
Are rebates subtracted from the price?
Yes. Your written estimate shows the NYS Clean Heat or Efficiency Vermont rebate already applied, and we file the application for you.
Is 0% financing really 0%?
Yes, for qualified buyers through Synchrony: 0% interest for 18 months. Apply online or at the estimate.
How do I get the $250 off?
Complete the free Cost Savings Calculator on our site before your estimate. The emailed report includes a code worth $250 off your installation.
Does a heat pump cost less to run than oil or propane?
For nearly every North Country home without natural gas, yes. A Mitsubishi H2i delivers roughly three units of heat per unit of electricity; oil and propane deliver less than one per unit of fuel and are the most expensive fuels per BTU. The calculator shows your specific comparison.

★★★★★“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
