Because not every house in the North Country is a heat pump house yet
We opened in Ticonderoga in 2022 as a Mitsubishi specialist, and heat pumps are still the majority of what we install. But when we moved into the former Champlain Valley Heating & Plumbing building on Montcalm Street in 2024, we inherited customers with oil boilers, propane furnaces and central air that needed someone local to service them. Telling those people to call someone else was never the plan.
So we install RUUD on the traditional side: furnaces up to 98% AFUE, condensing boilers up to 96% AFUE, central air up to 19 SEER2 and hybrid water heaters. RUUD has built equipment in the United States for over a century, it handles the damp, deep cold we get along Lake Champlain, and it carries warranties we're comfortable standing behind.
What doesn't change is how we do the work. Every furnace and boiler is sized to a calculated heat loss, not to whatever was there before. Every combustion appliance gets a combustion analysis and carbon monoxide test before we leave. Every warranty gets registered by us, so coverage is active on day one.

Emergency repairPropane, oil, wood and electric. Almost no natural gas.
Outside a few streets in Plattsburgh and the Vermont towns across the lake, utility natural gas simply doesn't exist in our service area. That shapes every traditional HVAC decision up here:
- Propane is the practical fuel for a new furnace or boiler. Every RUUD model we install configures for LP, and most homes already have a tank or can get one set.
- Oil still heats a large share of older homes from Whitehall to Westport. We service oil furnaces and boilers, and we are honest about when a 30-year-old oil boiler is past repairing.
- Electric baseboard is common in camps and 1970s builds. It is the most expensive way to heat, and the easiest to replace with a heat pump.
- Wood is the backup in half the houses we visit, and the reason our air quality page talks about smoke.
Winter design temperature in Ticonderoga is about -10°F. Lake Placid and Saranac Lake see -20°F to -30°F most winters. Equipment has to be sized for that, and so does the backup plan.

What a traditional install looks like with us
Free in-home estimate
A comfort consultant measures the house, runs the heat loss or cooling load, checks the panel, ducts and venting, and prices the options, including a heat pump if it makes sense.
Install and commission
Our own technicians install to RUUD factory specification: gas pressure, combustion, refrigerant charge by weight, airflow and static pressure all verified and recorded.
Test, register, guarantee
Combustion analysis and CO test on every fuel-burning appliance, warranty registered in your name, and the 180-Day Comfort Guarantee on the whole job.
Before you buy another furnace, let us show you both numbers
A Mitsubishi Hyper-Heating INVERTER system heats at full rated capacity at 5°F, keeps running to -13°F, and on H2i Plus models to -22°F. It cools in July, it has no burner and no flue, and it is the only option on this page that qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG and National Grid. Financing is 18 months at 0% interest on qualifying installs.
A furnace or boiler replacement gets none of that incentive. That doesn't make it the wrong choice. It means the gap between the two is smaller than most people assume, and worth seeing on paper. Use the savings calculator to compare what a heat pump would cost to run against your current oil or propane bill, or let us walk a whole-home conversion through at the estimate.
If RUUD is the right answer for your budget, your building or your tenants, we install it well and stand behind it.

Traditional HVAC questions
Do you still install furnaces and boilers, or only heat pumps?
Both. Heat pumps are our specialty as a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor ELITE, and we also install RUUD furnaces, boilers, central air and water heaters, and repair all of those in any brand.
Can you install a natural gas furnace in Ticonderoga?
Only if a utility gas line serves your street, and in most of Essex County it doesn't. The realistic choices are a propane furnace or boiler, a Mitsubishi heat pump, or a hybrid of the two. Every RUUD furnace and boiler we install configures for propane.
Should I replace my furnace with another furnace or switch to a heat pump?
It depends on your fuel, your ductwork, your electrical panel, your budget and how long you plan to stay. A heat pump handles heating and cooling in one system and qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates; a furnace does not. We run both sets of numbers at the free estimate so you can compare real operating costs for your house.
How fast can you respond to a no-heat call?
Call (518) 812-1958 any time. A live person answers Monday through Friday 8 to 5; after hours our assistant takes your details and the on-call office calls you back. Loss of heat below freezing goes to the front of the line.
Do you service oil furnaces and oil boilers?
Yes. We repair and maintain oil equipment of all major brands, including the systems installed by Champlain Valley Heating & Plumbing before we took over their building.
Is financing available on a furnace, boiler or AC?
Yes. 18 months at 0% interest through Synchrony on qualifying installations. Heat pump installs also qualify for NYS Clean Heat and Efficiency Vermont rebates, which we confirm at the estimate.
Do you offer maintenance plans?
Yes. Annual furnace, boiler, AC and heat pump tune-ups are posted on the maintenance pricing page, and the Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan adds priority service and covered repairs on Mitsubishi systems.
Rebates Available
North Country homeowners switching from oil, propane, wood or electric baseboard to a Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump qualify for NYSEG or National Grid rebates through NYS Clean Heat, and Addison County, Vermont homes qualify through Efficiency Vermont plus utility bonuses. Rebate amounts change by program and tier — we tell you exactly what your home qualifies for at the free in-home estimate and handle the entire application for you.

★★★★★“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
