Air Conditioning Installation in Ticonderoga & the North Country
Most homes between Lake George and Plattsburgh were built without air conditioning, and July on Lake Champlain is humid enough to need it. Adirondack Heat Pumps installs two kinds: Mitsubishi Electric ductless systems that cool and dehumidify room by room — and heat the same rooms in January — and RUUD central air for homes that already have ductwork from a furnace. Both are sized from a load calculation, installed by our own crews, and serviced from our Ticonderoga shop.

Air conditioning that also happens to heat
A Mitsubishi ductless system is a full air conditioner. In cooling mode the indoor unit pulls heat and humidity out of the room and the outdoor unit releases it outside, with the same inverter compressor that carries the house through winter. Because the compressor modulates instead of cycling, cooling runs are long and gentle, which is what actually wrings moisture out of a muggy August afternoon in Ticonderoga. Many of our customers call about AC and end up with a system that also replaces their propane or baseboard heat — often for less than a separate central air install plus a furnace replacement.
- SEER2 up to the low 30s on single-zone FS-series systems — among the most efficient cooling equipment sold.
- Dry mode dehumidifies without over-cooling, for the damp days in June when it's 72°F and sticky.
- As low as 19 dB indoors on low fan; the outdoor unit is about the sound of a quiet conversation.
- Zone by zone — cool the bedrooms at night and leave the rest of the house off.
- Washable filters with nano-platinum and deodorizing stages; no duct dust.
- Phone control through the Mitsubishi Comfort or kumo cloud app — pre-cool the camp before you arrive Friday.

Mitsubishi indoor unit options for cooling
Wall-mounted
The standard for bedrooms, living rooms and open plans. Throws air across the ceiling so you feel cool without the draft.
Wall units →Ceiling cassette
Recessed and nearly invisible, with four-way airflow for kitchens and great rooms.
Ceiling units →Floor-mounted
Low on the wall under big lake-view windows or in rooms with knee walls and sloped ceilings.
Floor units →Ducted air handler
Central-air feel through your existing ducts, with Mitsubishi efficiency and quiet.
Ducted →Why North Country homeowners ditch the window air conditioners
Window units are loud, block the view of the lake, leave a security gap, drip on the siding and cost a surprising amount to run. A single Mitsubishi wall unit cools the same room at a fraction of the electricity, runs quieter than a refrigerator, and stays in place year-round because it heats in winter too. Most single-room installs take one day and need one 3-inch hole. If the whole house is the problem, a multi-zone system cools every bedroom and the living area from one outdoor unit. See ductless mini-splits.

RUUD central air conditioning
If your home already has ducts from an oil or propane furnace and you want conventional central air, we install RUUD condensing units matched to a new evaporator coil on your existing air handler or furnace. RUUD gives us three tiers to fit the budget:
- UA18AZ Ultra — 19 SEER2 inverter-driven variable-speed unit; the quietest and most efficient, with long gentle cycles for humidity control.
- UA16AZ Achiever Plus — 17 SEER2 two-stage; a strong middle option.
- RA14AZ Achiever — 16 SEER2 single-stage on R-454B refrigerant; the value choice for a straightforward replacement.
We'll also tell you when a Mitsubishi ducted air handler makes more sense — usually when the furnace is near the end of its life too, because the heat pump replaces both and qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates that a straight AC does not. Details on our RUUD central AC installation page, and ductwork services if the ducts need sealing or repair first.

Air conditioner repair and maintenance
We repair and maintain central air and ductless systems of any brand across Essex, Clinton, Franklin and northern Warren counties and Addison County, Vermont. If your AC is short-cycling, freezing up, leaking water or blowing warm, our service techs diagnose it and give you a straight repair-or-replace answer. Annual cleaning keeps a Mitsubishi coil efficient and is part of our Elite Care Plan. See air conditioner repair and maintenance pricing.

Air conditioning questions from North Country homeowners
Can I get air conditioning without ductwork?
Yes. A Mitsubishi ductless system connects an outdoor unit to wall, floor or ceiling indoor units through a 3-inch hole. It's the standard way to add AC to an older North Country home with a boiler and no ducts.
Does a Mitsubishi air conditioner heat too?
Yes. Every Mitsubishi system we install is a heat pump: it cools in summer and heats in winter, with Hyper-Heat models delivering full capacity at 5°F and operating to -13°F or -22°F. Most customers who call for AC end up replacing their propane or baseboard heat with the same system.
How well do mini-splits dehumidify?
Very well, because the inverter compressor runs long, gentle cycles instead of short blasts. Dry mode removes moisture without over-cooling for damp 70°F days in June and September.
Should I choose Mitsubishi ductless or RUUD central air?
If you have good ductwork and a furnace you plan to keep, RUUD central AC is the straightforward choice. If you have no ducts, want room-by-room control, or your furnace is aging, a Mitsubishi system cools and heats and qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates. We'll show you both at the estimate.
How loud is a Mitsubishi air conditioner?
Wall units run as low as 19 dB on low fan, quieter than a whisper. The outdoor unit is about the level of a quiet conversation and ramps up gradually.
How long does AC installation take?
A single-zone Mitsubishi system or a RUUD condenser swap is usually one day. Multi-zone systems take two to three days.
Are there rebates for air conditioning?
Straight air conditioners generally don't earn rebates. Mitsubishi heat pumps do, through NYS Clean Heat (NYSEG or National Grid) in New York and Efficiency Vermont in Addison County, because they also replace fossil-fuel heat. We confirm your amount at the free estimate.
Rebates Available
North Country homeowners switching from oil, propane, wood or electric baseboard to a Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump qualify for NYSEG or National Grid rebates through NYS Clean Heat, and Addison County, Vermont homes qualify through Efficiency Vermont plus utility bonuses. Rebate amounts change by program and tier — we tell you exactly what your home qualifies for at the free in-home estimate and handle the entire application for you.
★★★★★“We had Mark, Rolland, and Matt help get mini splits installed in our first home. They worked with us to make sure we had the right system for our home. This team provided amazing professionalism, customer service, and expertise!”
★★★★★“Been doing business with Gerry and his crew for close to 10 years and always totally satisfied with their product and customer service.”
★★★★★“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
