If Hyper-Heat works in Saranac Lake, it works anywhere
Saranac Lake is about 85 minutes from Ticonderoga, past Keene and Lake Placid on Route 86, and it is the coldest village we serve. Winter Carnival is built around the fact that the ice on Lake Flower gets thick enough for a palace. Nights of -20°F to -30°F happen every winter, and the heating season runs from October into May. Homes here heat with fuel oil, propane, kerosene, wood and electric baseboard, at delivered-fuel prices that climb every time a truck has to come up Route 3 in a storm.
The housing stock is distinctive. The village still has dozens of cure cottages from the Trudeau sanatorium era, with their wraparound porches, big windows and almost no insulation in the original walls. There are tight newer homes in the hills, year-round houses along Lake Flower and Kiwassa Lake, and classic lakefront camps on Lower Saranac and the Saranac River. Each one needs a different system, which is why we start with a room-by-room load calculation rather than a square-foot guess.
Mitsubishi's Hyper-Heating INVERTER equipment was built for this. It holds 100% of its rated heating capacity at 5°F and keeps running to -22°F on the H2i Plus and FS-series models we install in the Tri-Lakes, with an inverter compressor that only works as hard as the night demands. In July it gives you cooling and dehumidification that a lake camp has never had.

Why Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat works in Saranac Lake
The High Peaks are the hardest heating test in New York State. Nights of -20°F are normal here and -30°F shows up most winters, with a heating season that runs from October into May. Mitsubishi Electric built the Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) line for exactly this: 100% of rated heating capacity at 5°F, continued operation to -13°F on standard H2i equipment, and down to -22°F on the newer H2i Plus and FS-series models we install in Saranac Lake.
Below those limits the unit does not die; it keeps running at reduced output while the home coasts on stored heat. We size for the coldest realistic night, not the average one, and we tell you straight whether a wood stove or backup makes sense for your house. The inverter compressor modulates instead of cycling on and off, so the system sips power at 20°F and ramps up only when the thermometer dives.
For a cure cottage or an older camp we will often recommend keeping the wood stove or existing boiler for the handful of -30°F nights a winter. For a tight newer house the heat pump is usually the only heat you need. We say which after we measure, not after we install.

What we install in Saranac Lake
Most Saranac Lake homes have no ductwork and no natural gas, so the system we design starts from the rooms you actually live in. Here is what we install most often in Saranac Lake:
- Whole-home conversions off oil and propane in village homes and cure cottages, with the existing boiler kept as backup where it makes sense
- Camp systems on Lower Saranac, Kiwassa and Lake Flower with freeze alerts through the Mitsubishi Comfort app
- Multi-zone systems for rental properties and multi-family homes with per-unit control
- Floor-mounted units for porches converted to living space and rooms with knee walls
- Single-zone mini-splits for additions, studios and the room the boiler never reached
- Heat pump repair and maintenance on any brand, plus RUUD furnace and boiler service
Single-zone ductless
One outdoor unit, one indoor unit. The right answer for an addition, a great room, a camp or the one room the furnace never reaches.
Ductless mini-splits →Multi-zone systems
One Hyper-Heat outdoor unit feeding up to 8 indoor units, each on its own thermostat.
Indoor unit styles →Whole-home conversions
Replace the oil or propane boiler as the primary heat source. Ductless zones, a ducted air handler, or both.
Whole-home heat pumps →Ducted air handlers
A Mitsubishi SVZ or PVA air handler drops in where an old furnace was and uses the ducts you already have.
Ducted systems →Repair & maintenance
Mitsubishi-certified service on any brand of heat pump, plus furnaces, boilers and central AC. Flat-rate maintenance pricing posted online.
Heat pump repair →RUUD furnaces, boilers & AC
When a heat pump is not the right fit, we install RUUD propane furnaces, high-efficiency boilers and central air, and hybrid heat-pump water heaters.
Traditional HVAC →Heat pump rebates for Saranac Lake homeowners
Saranac Lake is NYSEG territory, which means NYS Clean Heat rebates administered through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump installs. Adirondack Heat Pumps is a participating contractor, so the rebate comes off your invoice instead of arriving as a check months later. Homes converting fully off oil or propane generally qualify for the higher tiers; single-zone and partial-home systems qualify for less.
The village straddles Franklin and Essex counties and the rebate is the same on both sides. A whole-home conversion in Saranac Lake typically lands in the higher tier because the oil or propane use being replaced is so large.
Programs and tiers change, so we do not print dollar figures here. We confirm your exact amount at the free estimate and file the paperwork for you. See rebates & savings and financing.
Run your numbers first. Our savings calculator compares your current oil, propane or electric bill against a Mitsubishi system and generates a $250-off code you can use at your estimate.

Heat pump questions from Saranac Lake homeowners
Saranac Lake hits -30°F. Is a heat pump a real primary heat source here?
Yes, with the right equipment and sizing. The H2i Plus and FS-series Mitsubishi units we install operate to -22°F and keep producing heat below that at reduced output. Many Saranac Lake customers run heat pumps as primary heat and keep a wood stove or the old boiler for the rare nights below -25°F. We tell you which category your house falls in after the load calculation.
Can you put heat pumps in a cure cottage?
Yes. Cure cottages are leaky and oddly shaped, so we zone them carefully: wall units in bedrooms, a floor-mounted unit in a converted porch, and a load calculation that accounts for the real insulation levels. The oil savings are large because the existing bill is large.
Which utility rebate applies in Saranac Lake?
NYSEG serves Saranac Lake, so NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG apply. We are a participating contractor and take the rebate off the invoice. We confirm your tier at the free estimate.
How quickly can you get to Saranac Lake for a repair?
We are about 85 minutes away and our North Zone team is in the Tri-Lakes regularly. Many Comfort-app-connected systems can be diagnosed remotely first, which has saved customers a site visit more than once.
Will a heat pump cool my camp on Lower Saranac in the summer?
Yes. The same system reverses to cool and dehumidify, which is the part most camp owners end up loving. Our Newcomb customers said they could not get over how quiet it is indoors and out.
