Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan — 12-Year Parts & Labor Warranty
The Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan covers parts, labor, trip charges and refrigerant on any covered mechanical failure of a Mitsubishi Electric heat pump we installed — for 12 years, as long as you renew each year. It starts at $28/month for a single-zone system and includes two maintenance visits a year and 24-hour priority service. No hourly charges, no trip fees, no deductibles.
- $0 repairs
- Bi-annual maintenance included
- 24-hour priority service
- 100% transferable
Why most heat pump warranties leave North Country homeowners exposed
A manufacturer warranty covers a defective part. It does not cover the technician who drives to Schroon Lake to diagnose it, the hours to replace it, or the refrigerant to recharge the system. In the Adirondacks, where a service trip can be an hour each way, that gap is expensive.
- Labor is 50–60% of every repair bill. A covered compressor still leaves $1,500–$3,000 in labor on a standard warranty.
- Trip charges add up. Routine diagnostic calls run $150–$250 before any repair begins, and standard warranties do not pay them.
- Refrigerant is excluded. A leak repair can run $500–$1,500 in refrigerant alone. Most warranties explicitly leave it out.
- Claims fail without maintenance records. Roughly 30–40% of warranty claims are denied because the homeowner cannot show documented service. Most warranties do not include maintenance. Ours does.

Simple per-unit pricing, no hidden fees
Billed automatically by ACH or credit card on the 1st of each month. No enrollment fee, no deductible, no surprise charges on a covered repair.
Outdoor condenser
$18.50 per month, per unit
Full coverage for the compressor, condenser coil, fan motor, capacitor, contactor, refrigerant and all labor.
Indoor air handler / evaporator
$9.50 per month, per unit
Covers each indoor unit — high wall, floor-mounted, ceiling cassette or ducted air handler. One per zone.
Single-zone system total
$28.00 per month (1 outdoor + 1 indoor)
One avoided compressor replacement pays for 4–9 years of the plan. Heat pump systems fail at a rate of 10–15% a year after year five.
Multi-zone systems: add $9.50/month for each additional indoor unit. A three-zone system (one outdoor, three indoor) is $47.00/month. No enrollment fees, no deductibles, no extra charges on covered repairs — ever.

What is not covered
Standard industry exclusions. These fall under homeowner's insurance, not an equipment warranty:
- Acts of God — lightning, flooding, fallen trees
- External electrical surges
- Fire, theft or vandalism
- Animal damage, such as rodents chewing wiring
- Cosmetic damage with no effect on operation
- HEPA / high-efficiency filters (billed separately)
- Line set insulation replacement
What happens at your two maintenance visits
Two full visits a year, spring and fall, by technicians trained on Mitsubishi Electric equipment. Dirty coils cut system capacity by 20–30% — in a Lake Placid January that is the difference between a warm house and a service call.
Outdoor condenser service
- Level the condenser on its pad or stand for proper drainage
- Inspect all high- and low-voltage wiring
- Check the contactor, capacitor and compressor
- Inspect the condenser coil, fan blade and fan motor
- Evaluate refrigerant levels and line set integrity
- Inspect line set insulation and the disconnect box
- Coil jet cleaning to clear dirt and pollen from the coil fins
- Verify operation against Mitsubishi specifications
Indoor unit service
- All unit types: high wall, floor-mounted, cassette, ducted
- Secure and level each indoor unit
- Inspect and tighten all control wiring
- Coil jet cleaning with a built-in compressor; debris captured in a rinse container
- Inspect fan blade and motor condition
- Check the condensate pan and drain line
- Fresh batteries in the remote control

Terms, conditions and requirements
Clear terms, no fine-print surprises.
Who qualifies
Mitsubishi Electric heat pump equipment installed by Adirondack Heat Pumps in Upstate New York and Vermont. Systems installed by anyone else do not qualify.
System integrity
Coverage is voided if the system is serviced, repaired or modified by any person or company other than Adirondack Heat Pumps.
Maintenance requirement
Two visits a year. Missing one visit does not void coverage; missing more than one consecutive cycle ends the labor and refrigerant warranty.
Payment & billing
12-month agreement, auto-renewing annually. Monthly billing by ACH or credit card on the 1st. Cancel any time with 30 days' written notice.
Transferability
100% transferable to a new homeowner. Notify us in writing within 30 days of closing. A one-time $99 administrative transfer fee applies.
Lapsed coverage
If coverage lapses, reinstatement requires a full system recertification. Labor and refrigerant coverage ends on the final payment date after cancellation.
Transferring the plan when you sell your home
An active 12-year parts and labor warranty is a documented selling point on a camp in Hague or a village home in Elizabethtown. Buyers and their inspectors ask about the heating system first.

Keeping your system ready for Adirondack and Vermont seasons
Sub-zero winters, humid summers and heavy lake-effect snow all affect a heat pump. A few minutes between scheduled visits keeps it running at full capacity.
Spring
- Clear winter debris — leaves, pine needles, compacted snow — from around the outdoor unit
- Check that the pad or stand is level after frost heave
- Make sure drainage paths around the unit are clear
- Move furniture or shelving that blocks indoor airflow
- Clean indoor filters on the schedule in the Mitsubishi owner's manual
Fall
- Remove fallen leaves and vegetation piling against the outdoor unit
- Run the system in both heating and cooling before cold weather arrives
- Confirm our technician can reach the outdoor unit without obstruction
- Note any unusual sounds, reduced airflow or error codes and report them promptly
Year-round
- Keep at least 18 inches of clearance around the outdoor unit
- Never stack firewood, lawn equipment or storage against it
- In winter, gently brush heavy snow off the top — never use sharp tools
- Report error codes, odors or indoor water leaks promptly

Common questions about the Adirondack Shield plan
Does this warranty cover both parts and labor for 12 years?
Yes. The Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan covers parts, labor, trip charges and refrigerant for any covered mechanical failure for the full 12-year term, as long as the plan is renewed annually and the bi-annual maintenance visits are kept. No deductibles, no hourly rates, no hidden fees.
How is this different from the Mitsubishi Electric manufacturer warranty?
Mitsubishi Electric's manufacturer warranty covers parts on qualifying systems registered within 90 days of installation. It does not cover labor, service calls, trip charges or refrigerant. The Adirondack Shield covers all of those, so it works as a true extended labor warranty layered on top of Mitsubishi's parts coverage. See how the 12-year parts and labor coverage fits together.
What happens if I miss a maintenance visit?
Missing one scheduled visit does not void coverage. Missing more than one consecutive maintenance cycle ends the labor and refrigerant warranty, and reinstatement requires a full system recertification fee.
Can someone else service my Mitsubishi heat pump while I'm on the plan?
No. Allowing any third party to service, repair or modify the system voids coverage. This keeps every repair to Mitsubishi Electric specifications and protects the validity of your 12-year warranty.
Is the plan available for Daikin, Fujitsu or other brands?
No. The Adirondack Shield Elite Care Plan is only for Mitsubishi Electric heat pump systems installed by Adirondack Heat Pumps. Our technicians are trained specifically on Mitsubishi equipment. We still repair other brands at our per-visit rates.
What is the 24-hour priority response?
Plan members get a guaranteed diagnostic response within 24 hours of reporting a system failure. When a heat pump quits during a Vermont cold snap or an August heat wave on Lake George, you are at the front of the service line, not waiting days for a callback.
How does the plan transfer when I sell my home?
The plan is 100% transferable. Notify us in writing within 30 days of the closing, provide the new homeowner's contact information and pay the one-time $99 transfer fee. The new owner takes on all plan rights and the remaining warranty period.
Is refrigerant covered on a mechanical failure?
Yes. Refrigerant required for any covered mechanical failure is included at $0. A refrigerant leak repair can cost $500–$1,500 in refrigerant alone; the Adirondack Shield removes that cost on covered failures.
