MLZ-KP EZ FIT
One-way cassette with a narrow body built to fit between 16-inch joists — the residential retrofit cassette.
- 9,000–18,000 BTU/h
- Service panel from below
- Kitchens, hallways, bedrooms
- Multi-zone
Ceiling-mounted units put the heat and cooling overhead and keep the walls clear. Mitsubishi makes three: the MLZ EZ FIT one-way cassette that slips between standard joists in a kitchen or hallway ceiling, the SLZ and PLA four-way cassettes that recess flush into a drop ceiling or framed opening and throw air in four directions across a great room or an inn's dining room, and the PCA ceiling-suspended unit for restaurants, classrooms and shops with hard ceilings. All run on Hyper-Heat outdoor units and all are installed and serviced from our Ticonderoga shop.
A cassette sits inside the ceiling with only a slim grille showing. Room air returns through the center of the grille, passes the coil and fan inside the ceiling, and comes back out through one or four adjustable outlets around the edge. A return-air sensor on every unit watches the room and asks the outdoor unit for exactly the capacity it needs; the vanes let you aim air where it's wanted and away from a dining table or a desk. Because the unit is overhead and central, coverage of a large open room is more even than from any single wall unit, and there's nothing on the walls at all.

Compact four-way cassette that fits a 2'x2' grid or a framed opening.

Full-size commercial cassette for large open rooms.

Hangs below a hard ceiling where there's no cavity to recess into.

Ceiling cassettes use the same washable filter approach as every Mitsubishi indoor unit: drop the grille, slide the filter out, rinse, dry and reinsert. Nothing to buy, nothing to order. Filtration keeps dust, pollen and pet hair out of the coil, and some models can bring in a measured amount of fresh outdoor air. Controls include the standard wireless remote, the MHK2 wall thermostat, PAR wired controllers for commercial rooms, and the Mitsubishi Comfort or kumo cloud app so an innkeeper can set every room from a phone. Annual service — coil and blower cleaning, drain pump check, charge verification — is part of the Elite Care Plan or our maintenance menu. See controls for the full lineup.
The MLZ EZ FIT is designed for standard 16-inch joist bays under an accessible attic or floor, which covers most North Country homes with flat ceilings. SLZ and PLA need a deeper cavity or a drop ceiling. Cathedral ceilings usually can't take a cassette; we use floor or wall units there.
Yes. On H2i outdoor units, cassettes deliver 100% of rated capacity at 5°F and operate to -13°F. The heat comes out of the ceiling vanes and the vanes aim it down into the room.
Yes, when the vanes are set to throw downward in heating mode, which the unit does automatically. In a standard-height room the air mixes well. In very tall rooms we usually recommend a floor-mounted unit instead.
Open the grille from below, slide the washable filter out, rinse and dry it, and slide it back. No ladder into the attic, no filters to buy.
Cassettes have a built-in lift pump, so the drain line can run up and over to an exterior wall or a drain. We route it at install and check the pump at every annual service.
A PLA four-way cassette up to 42,000 BTU/h often can. Larger spaces use two or more cassettes on a multi-zone or P-Series outdoor unit. We size from a load calculation at the estimate.
North Country homeowners switching from oil, propane, wood or electric baseboard to a Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump qualify for NYSEG or National Grid rebates through NYS Clean Heat, and Addison County, Vermont homes qualify through Efficiency Vermont plus utility bonuses. Rebate amounts change by program and tier — we tell you exactly what your home qualifies for at the free in-home estimate and handle the entire application for you.
