Tupper Lake heat pump installation

Deep-Adirondack cold, oil and propane prices, and a better option

Tupper Lake sits in the middle of the Park where fuel deliveries are long and winter is longer. Homes in the village and out Route 3 and Route 30 heat with oil, propane, wood and electric baseboard; there is no natural gas anywhere near. Nights of -20°F are routine and -30°F happens. That combination of expensive fuel and extreme cold is where a properly specified cold-climate heat pump pays back fastest.

The houses are a mix: logging-era village homes near the Wild Center and the old mill sites, year-round houses on the hills above Raquette Pond, and camps along Big Tupper, Simon Pond and the Raquette River that are used hard in summer and sit empty for stretches of winter. Camps are an especially good fit for a mini-split. You can hold the building at 50°F cheaply, watch it from your phone, and have cooling in August.

We send our North Zone comfort consultant to Tupper Lake for free estimates and our own Mitsubishi-certified installers for the work. Because the drive is long we plan Tupper Lake installs carefully and group service calls with Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, so a visit is never a one-off trip somebody has to squeeze in.

Why Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat works in Tupper Lake

The High Peaks are the hardest heating test in New York State. Nights of -20°F are normal here and -30°F shows up most winters, with a heating season that runs from October into May. Mitsubishi Electric built the Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) line for exactly this: 100% of rated heating capacity at 5°F, continued operation to -13°F on standard H2i equipment, and down to -22°F on the newer H2i Plus and FS-series models we install in Tupper Lake.

Below those limits the unit does not die; it keeps running at reduced output while the home coasts on stored heat. We size for the coldest realistic night, not the average one, and we tell you straight whether a wood stove or backup makes sense for your house. The inverter compressor modulates instead of cycling on and off, so the system sips power at 20°F and ramps up only when the thermometer dives.

Tupper Lake is one of the towns where we most often recommend keeping a wood stove for the coldest nights. The heat pump will carry the house 95% of the winter at a fraction of the oil cost; the stove covers the rest.

What we install in Tupper Lake

Most Tupper Lake homes have no ductwork and no natural gas, so the system we design starts from the rooms you actually live in. Here is what we install most often in Tupper Lake:

  • Camp and seasonal-home systems on Big Tupper, Simon Pond and Raquette Pond with freeze alerts and remote control
  • Whole-home conversions off oil and propane with the stove or boiler kept for backup
  • Multi-zone systems with wall units in bedrooms and a floor-mounted unit in the main room
  • Single-zone mini-splits for additions, garages and workshops
  • Heat pump repair and maintenance on any brand, grouped with our Tri-Lakes service runs
  • RUUD propane furnace and boiler installation when a heat pump is not the right call

Rebates & incentives

Heat pump rebates for Tupper Lake homeowners

Most of the Tupper Lake area is NYSEG territory, which means NYS Clean Heat rebates administered through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump installs. Adirondack Heat Pumps is a participating contractor, so the rebate comes off your invoice instead of arriving as a check months later. Homes converting fully off oil or propane generally qualify for the higher tiers; single-zone and partial-home systems qualify for less.

The Village of Tupper Lake runs its own municipal electric department, and village customers follow a different rebate path than NYSEG customers. Tell us who bills your electricity and we will confirm which program applies and what it covers before we quote.

Programs and tiers change, so we do not print dollar figures here. We confirm your exact amount at the free estimate and file the paperwork for you. See rebates & savings and financing.

Run your numbers first. Our savings calculator compares your current oil, propane or electric bill against a Mitsubishi system and generates a $250-off code you can use at your estimate.

FAQ

Heat pump questions from Tupper Lake homeowners

Tupper Lake is a long way from Ticonderoga. Do you really service here?

Yes. Tupper Lake is about 100 minutes from the shop and the western edge of our regular territory. Estimates are free, there is no travel charge on installs, and we group Tupper Lake service with Saranac Lake and Lake Placid so repairs get scheduled without a special trip.

Will a heat pump heat my Tupper Lake house at -30°F?

The H2i Plus and FS-series units we install operate to -22°F and keep running at reduced output below that. For most Tupper Lake homes we recommend keeping a wood stove or the existing boiler for the coldest few nights; the heat pump carries the rest of the season at a far lower cost than oil.

Which rebate program applies in Tupper Lake?

NYSEG customers get NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG, which we file. Village of Tupper Lake municipal electric customers follow a different path. We confirm which applies to your address at the free estimate.

My camp on Big Tupper is only used in summer and a few winter weekends. Is a heat pump worth it?

Usually, yes. A single- or dual-zone system holds the camp at 50°F cheaply, sends an alert to your phone if it cannot, and gives you cooling in summer. There is no propane tank to fill or run dry while you are away.

Can you add air conditioning without heat?

Every Mitsubishi system we install both heats and cools, and the cost difference for a cooling-only unit is small. Nearly everyone ends up using the heat in shoulder season anyway.

“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
