Schroon Lake heat pump installation

Lake camps, village homes and a heating season that starts in October

Schroon Lake is nine miles long and most of its shoreline is camps and lake houses, from the village beach down to Adirondack and Pottersville and up toward Paradox Lake on Route 74. The village itself has year-round homes along Route 9 and the side streets, and the Northway exits bring second-home owners up from downstate every weekend. Winter design temperature is about -10°F with colder nights in the hollows, and the heating season runs from early October into May.

There is no natural gas. Camps mostly run on propane or electric baseboard because they were built for summer; village homes run on oil and wood. The seasonal camps are where a Mitsubishi system makes the biggest difference: hold the building at 50°F all winter for a small electric bill, get an alert on your phone if it ever drops, and have real air conditioning for the humid July weeks instead of a window unit that drowns out the loons.

At 30 minutes from the shop, Schroon Lake is close enough that a comfort consultant can meet you at the camp on a weekend-adjacent day, and a no-heat call in February is a short drive over Route 74.

Why Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat works in Schroon Lake

The Champlain Valley is milder than the High Peaks but still serious cold. The design temperature around Schroon Lake is roughly -10°F, with a few nights most winters that go lower and a damp lake wind that makes old houses feel colder than the number. Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) equipment delivers 100% of its rated heating capacity at 5°F, keeps operating to -13°F, and the newer H2i Plus and FS-series models run to -22°F. That is a comfortable margin for a Schroon Lake winter.

The inverter compressor modulates its speed to match the load instead of cycling on and off, which is where most of the efficiency comes from. On a 25°F day the system runs low and quiet; on the coldest night of the year it ramps to full output. We size every system from a room-by-room load calculation, not the square footage on a tax card.

Heat pump rebates for Schroon Lake homeowners

Schroon Lake is NYSEG territory, which means NYS Clean Heat rebates administered through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump installs. Adirondack Heat Pumps is a participating contractor, so the rebate comes off your invoice instead of arriving as a check months later. Homes converting fully off oil or propane generally qualify for the higher tiers; single-zone and partial-home systems qualify for less.

Seasonal camps qualify too; the rebate depends on the system installed, not on how many months a year you live there. We bring the current tiers to the estimate.

Programs and tiers change, so we do not print dollar figures here. We confirm your exact amount at the free estimate and file the paperwork for you. See rebates & savings and financing.

Run your numbers first. Our savings calculator compares your current oil, propane or electric bill against a Mitsubishi system and generates a $250-off code you can use at your estimate.

FAQ

Heat pump questions from Schroon Lake homeowners

Can I leave my Schroon Lake camp heated all winter with a heat pump?

Yes. Set it to 50°F, connect it to the Mitsubishi Comfort app, and you get an alert if it cannot hold setpoint. On low speed the heat pump draws far less than baseboard and there is no propane tank to run dry.

Which utility covers Schroon Lake?

NYSEG. NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi installs, including seasonal camps, and we apply them on the invoice as a participating contractor.

How close are you to Schroon Lake?

About 30 minutes from Ticonderoga over Route 74. Estimates are free and repairs are easy to schedule.

Is a heat pump too loud for a quiet lake?

No. Mitsubishi wall units run as quiet as 19 dB indoors, and the outdoor unit is quieter than a window air conditioner. Our Newcomb customers said they could not get over how quiet it is inside and out.

My camp has a cathedral ceiling. Where does the indoor unit go?

Low. A floor-mounted unit keeps the warm air at living level instead of at the ridge. Wall units in bedrooms and a ceiling fan on low finish the job.

“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
