RUUD Central Air Conditioning Installation in Ticonderoga, NY
Adirondack Heat Pumps installs and replaces RUUD central air conditioning from 16 to 19 SEER2 for ducted homes in Ticonderoga, Crown Point, Schroon Lake, Lake George, Whitehall and the Champlain Valley. Every system is sized to a calculated cooling load rather than the old tonnage, charged by weight, commissioned to factory spec and registered for warranty. Current RUUD models run on R-454B refrigerant.

Humid July nights are the real problem, not the heat
Ticonderoga summers aren't Florida, but a stretch of 88°F days with lake humidity and a house that holds heat overnight is miserable, and it's getting more common. The failure mode we see in older central AC here isn't a lack of capacity; it's oversizing. A system that's too big cools the air fast, shuts off before it pulls the moisture out, and leaves the house cold and clammy at the same time while wearing out the compressor.
That's why we don't match whatever tonnage the last contractor put in. We run a cooling load on the house, check the ducts and the electrical service, and size the RUUD system to the number. A factory-trained installer sets refrigerant charge by weight and verifies it with superheat and subcooling, measures airflow across the coil, and tests temperature split and static pressure before calling the job done.

The three RUUD air conditioners we install
All on R-454B low-GWP refrigerant, all backed by RUUD's factory warranty when registered. We size it at the free estimate.
RUUD UA18AZ Ultra Series
19 SEER2 / 12 EER2, inverter variable-speed
- Inverter compressor runs at 40–100% of capacity, overdrive to 115% on the hottest days
- Long low-speed cycles that actually dehumidify, the biggest comfort difference in a Champlain Valley summer
- EcoNet smart controls and Bluetooth diagnostics
- Engineered sound dampening on tubing, fan blade and composite base pan
- 10-year parts plus 10-year conditional unit replacement with registration
Best for: the quietest, most even cooling and the lowest electric bill.
RUUD UA16AZ Achiever Plus
Up to 17 SEER2, two-stage
- Runs on low stage most of the season for steadier temperatures and better moisture removal
- Noticeably quieter and more efficient than single-stage
- EcoNet compatible
- Corrosion-resistant composite base pan and powder-coat finish
- 10-year conditional parts warranty with registration
Best for: most of the premium benefit without the premium price.
RUUD RA14AZ Achiever
16 SEER2 / 13 EER2, single-stage
- Meets current federal efficiency standards
- 7mm condenser coil uses up to 15% less refrigerant
- R-454B low-GWP refrigerant
- Quiet for a single-stage unit, composite base pan
- 10-year conditional parts warranty with registration
Best for: replacing a failed AC with dependable cooling and solid efficiency.
Signs your central AC is done
- Twelve to fifteen years old. Most central systems last 12 to 17 years, with efficiency dropping well before failure.
- It uses R-22. R-22 is out of production, so a leak repair is expensive and getting harder.
- Second repair call in a summer. Replacement usually costs less over five years.
- Cold but clammy. Oversized or airflow-starved, which a properly sized replacement fixes.
- Runs constantly on hot days. Can't keep up with the load any more.
- Ice on the lines, loud operation. Mechanical wear or refrigerant and airflow faults.

How a RUUD AC install goes
Free estimate and load calculation
We measure the house, windows, insulation and ducts and calculate the real cooling load. We also confirm your electrical panel can take the new condenser.
Install and commission
New condenser, matched evaporator coil, line set as needed. Charge set by weight and verified by superheat and subcooling, airflow measured, EcoNet configured on enabled models.
Performance test, register, guarantee
Temperature split and static pressure verified, warranty registered in your name, 180-Day Comfort Guarantee on the job.
Ducts in a hot attic can throw away a quarter of your cooling. We check them before quoting. See ductwork services.
A Mitsubishi heat pump is an air conditioner that also heats
Here's what most AC quotes won't tell you: a Mitsubishi heat pump cools your house the same way a central AC does, and it also heats it down to -13°F (-22°F on H2i Plus models). For close to the cost of a premium AC replacement you get cooling plus a heating system that runs on electricity instead of propane or oil.
That matters most when the furnace or boiler is also getting old. Instead of a new AC this year and a new furnace in three, one Mitsubishi system handles both. If the house has ducts, a ducted air handler uses them. If it doesn't, ductless works without them. And only the heat pump qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG and National Grid; central AC on its own gets nothing.
We'll price both with real annual operating numbers. If RUUD central air is the right fit, we install it properly and stand behind it.

Paying for it, and where we install
Financing is 18 months at 0% interest through Synchrony on qualifying installs. We install central air across Ticonderoga, Crown Point, Port Henry, Westport, Schroon Lake, Hague, Bolton Landing, Lake George, Chestertown, Warrensburg, Whitehall, Putnam, Plattsburgh, Peru, Keeseville and the Vermont shore of Lake Champlain; see the service area page. Central air questions
What size air conditioner does my house need?
It depends on square footage, insulation, window area and orientation, ceiling height and ductwork, not floor area alone. We run a cooling load at the free estimate. Oversizing is the most common mistake in AC replacement and the reason so many houses feel cold and damp at once.
What does SEER2 mean?
SEER2 is cooling output per unit of electricity over a season under the current test standard. Higher is more efficient. The RUUD lineup we install runs 16 to 19 SEER2; inverter and two-stage models also dehumidify better because they run longer at low speed.
What is R-454B and why does it matter?
R-454B is the low-global-warming-potential refrigerant in all current RUUD air conditioners, replacing R-410A. It's the refrigerant new equipment uses going forward, so parts and service support will be there for the life of the system.
My house has no ducts. Can I still get AC?
Yes, with a Mitsubishi ductless system. Wall or ceiling units cool individual rooms without ductwork, and they heat in winter too. Most baseboard-heated homes in Essex County go this route.
Should I get a central AC or a heat pump?
If you're only cooling and your furnace is young, central AC can be the right call. If your heating system is aging, or you heat with oil, propane or electric baseboard, a heat pump replaces both and qualifies for NYS Clean Heat rebates. We price both.
How long does installation take?
Most condenser-and-coil replacements are one day. Adding a line set or correcting ducts can add a day.

★★★★★“This is our second Mitsubishi heat pump … to heat the 30x40 insulated metal building with a single head we put up but handles it great. … they had to order and install the system in a little over 2 weeks to get it done by 12/31 to qualify for a large rebate and they got it done.”
