Westport heat pump installation

A village of old houses on a cold, beautiful bay

Westport sits on Northwest Bay of Lake Champlain where the Amtrak Adirondack line still stops at the old depot. The village has a high share of large 1800s homes, some of them summer houses from the steamboat era that are now lived in year-round, plus lakefront homes along the bay, the Essex County fairgrounds neighborhood, and working farms up the Boquet River valley toward Wadhams and Elizabethtown.

Those big old houses are expensive to heat with oil, and oil is what most of them burn. There is no natural gas in Westport. Propane, wood and electric baseboard fill in the rest. Winter design temperature is about -10°F and the bay sends a steady wind through town. Older houses here often have an oil boiler and radiators, no ductwork, and a few rooms that have never been warm.

A Mitsubishi system fixes those rooms first and the oil bill second. Wall units go where the heat is needed, a floor-mounted unit replaces a radiator in a parlor with tall windows, and a multi-zone outdoor unit on the lee side of the house runs them all. For a camp on the bay, the same system holds 50°F all winter and cools in August.

Why Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat works in Westport

The Champlain Valley is milder than the High Peaks but still serious cold. The design temperature around Westport is roughly -10°F, with a few nights most winters that go lower and a damp lake wind that makes old houses feel colder than the number. Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) equipment delivers 100% of its rated heating capacity at 5°F, keeps operating to -13°F, and the newer H2i Plus and FS-series models run to -22°F. That is a comfortable margin for a Westport winter.

The inverter compressor modulates its speed to match the load instead of cycling on and off, which is where most of the efficiency comes from. On a 25°F day the system runs low and quiet; on the coldest night of the year it ramps to full output. We size every system from a room-by-room load calculation, not the square footage on a tax card.

Heat pump rebates for Westport homeowners

Westport is NYSEG territory, which means NYS Clean Heat rebates administered through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi cold-climate heat pump installs. Adirondack Heat Pumps is a participating contractor, so the rebate comes off your invoice instead of arriving as a check months later. Homes converting fully off oil or propane generally qualify for the higher tiers; single-zone and partial-home systems qualify for less.

Large oil-heated homes like Westport's are the ones where the rebate tier and the fuel savings both come out highest. We bring the current numbers to the estimate.

Programs and tiers change, so we do not print dollar figures here. We confirm your exact amount at the free estimate and file the paperwork for you. See rebates & savings and financing.

Run your numbers first. Our savings calculator compares your current oil, propane or electric bill against a Mitsubishi system and generates a $250-off code you can use at your estimate.

FAQ

Heat pump questions from Westport homeowners

Can a heat pump handle a big old Westport house with 10-foot ceilings?

Yes, when it is zoned properly. We size each room from a load calculation and usually combine wall units, a floor-mounted unit or two and sometimes a ducted air handler on one or two multi-zone outdoor units. The boiler can stay as backup if you want it.

Which utility covers Westport for rebates?

NYSEG. NYS Clean Heat rebates through NYSEG apply to qualifying Mitsubishi installs in Westport and we apply them on the invoice as a participating contractor.

How far is Westport from your shop?

About 40 minutes up Route 22 and 9N from Ticonderoga. Estimates are free and there is no travel charge on installs.

Where does the outdoor unit go on a lakefront house?

On the side away from the bay, up on brackets or a stand above the snow line. Wind off the water does not stop the unit, but a sheltered spot keeps it cleaner and quieter.

Do you install heat pump water heaters?

Yes. RUUD hybrid heat-pump water heaters are a common add-on for Westport homes coming off oil, and they have their own incentive path.
