When we first published this in 2022, homeowners could pair a tax refund with a federal credit and NYSERDA rebates. The federal credit is gone as of 2026 — if a contractor is still advertising it, ask them for the IRS form number. New York's Clean Heat program, Efficiency Vermont and 0% financing are what remain, and they are enough to take thousands off a system that then saves you money every month.
